2 out of 5 stars Not what I wanted.   January 16, 2009

I have several problems with this product. The directions were brief and stated the obvious but contained no detail as to how to use the memory mode to program any alert temperature. There are no pictures to show how the stand/belt clip works. I have no clue how to get the user mode to be anything but 145 degrees. The FCC notice was more extensive than directions for the using the thermometer.

The first time I used it I made a turkey. The transmitter turned off after two hours. Not convient when the bird was far from being done. The second thing it did was alert me to check the bird every eight degrees. When the bird went from 40 to 185 that is over twenty times in the cooking process. I was ready to smash that beeper by the time the turkey was done. I want it to alert me just once, about ten degrees before the meat is done.

If you are happy using pre set temperatures and can stand all the beeping it does the remote unit it is easy to read.

1 out of 5 stars Worse than previous reviewer claims   November 15, 2009

This is a terrible product. I had the same problem as the previous reviewer. Because the instructions are terrible, I didn't know if it was defective or the alarm was suppose to go off all the time. I exchanged it but the replacement had the same issues. In addition, the remote only has about a 20 foot range so if you want to work in your kitchen while your barbeque outside, the grill needs to be right under your window. Finally, and call me crazy for thinking this is important, the temperature reading was nowhere close to accurate. When the proble was connected to the base unit I got a reading 10 degrees different than when connected to the remote and 20 degrees different than my two analog thermomters. When it told me the roast was medium, it was as rare as could be. It is amazing companies can sell garbage like this.

I had a Polder (without remote) that worked great. However, when I had trouble finding a replacement probe, I bought this. I am going to ask for my money back and if anyone knows of a wireless that works, let me know.

1 out of 5 stars If I could give this zero stars I would.   September 2, 2010

I had the same problems as the previous reviewers, PLUS: This thing is programmed to preset doneness temperatures, per the USDA. The USDA says rare beef is 140 degrees F. In my house, that's medium well. I want to cook a prime rib until 115F and then turn up the oven, but the thing won't let me preset a temperature. It will only let me select a doneness. I don't want to know when it's done, I want to know when I need to change my oven temp. It says it has a wide temperature range, but you can only get an alert between 140-185. But it wouldn't matter because the thing beeps constantly, when it's not randomly shutting off. It doesn't do anything you would want a probe thermometer to do. I get the feeling they are very concerned with being sued ("If we let them set the temperature at 135F that's below a USDA recommendation and they might get sick and we might get sued")so the thing is idiot-proof. Thing is, I'm not an idiot. Well, maybe I am, because I just wasted my money on this.
